Health Sector
Strengthening healthcare services and community wellbeing
Health
Dodoma, as Tanzania's health policy hub, faces persistent challenges. Strengthening the health sector is critical to achieve equitable access to quality healthcare and to build resilience against both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Persistent challenges such as shortages of skilled personnel, weak supply chains and limited preparedness for emerging diseases demand coordinated action. In collaboration with Central and Local Government, CMSR-TZ complements government efforts by addressing gaps in infrastructure, equipment and human resources, and by empowering communities to take ownership of their health.
Our interventions
- Infrastructure development — construction and rehabilitation of public health facilities, including dispensaries, health centres and staff houses for health providers.
- Capacity building — training and workshops for health care providers, community health workers (CHWs), peer educators and village health committees.
- Medical equipment and consumables — diagnostic equipment for TB and HIV including GeneXpert machines and standard microscopes; delivery beds, patient monitors, pharmaceutical refrigerators, autoclave sterilisers and other equipment supplied to government-owned health facilities.
- Community awareness campaigns — IEC/BCC campaigns using leaflets, posters, radio spots, drama and school debates; promotion of sanitation and hygiene; prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
- Sanitation and hygiene promotion — installation of rainwater harvesting systems and improved pit latrines in dispensaries and primary schools.
Why this matters
By complementing government efforts in infrastructure, medical equipment, capacity building, community awareness and sanitation promotion, CMSR-Tanzania ensures that health services are strengthened, sustainable, community-owned and responsive to local needs — ultimately improving the health and quality of life of rural and urban populations.
