Sekondari ya Kilimo — Agricultural Secondary School at Bara Farm
Bara village, Songwe Region
A three-year project with the Archdiocese of Mbeya to construct an agricultural secondary school at Bara village, Songwe Region, financed by CEI.
CMSR-Italy, in collaboration with CMSR-Tanzania and the Archdiocese of Mbeya, is implementing a project to construct an agricultural secondary school that will benefit students both within and outside Songwe Region. This three-year project is financially supported by CEI in Rome. Good Fortune Company Ltd executes the works while CMSR-TZ ensures all activities align with the approved plan through regular monitoring visits.
New buildings financed by the project
- Two blocks containing four classrooms each.
- Laboratory blocks, including chemistry and physics laboratories.
- A refectory with kitchen, storage, changing rooms and bathrooms.
- An administration block and a workshop.
- Improved latrines and student bathrooms.
Progress to December 2025
19,400 burnt bricks were mobilised on site along with six trips of sand and twelve trips of aggregates. Site clearance and excavation of foundation trenches for the classroom and administration blocks were completed, water pipes were laid over 600 metres from the riverside, and the foundation walls and over-site concrete slabs were completed in full. Walling reached ring-beam level for the four classrooms and roofing of both the classroom and administration blocks is nearly complete.
Challenges
Shortage of burnt bricks, water scarcity on site and rising building material costs have been the main constraints; a borehole is recommended and bulk purchasing of industrial materials is being used to manage costs.
